Shelbyville, Tennessee Explosion: City Hall, Offices Evacuated Amid Fire

A reported explosion and fire at the Shelbyville, Tenn., city hall and other county offices forced an evacuation. The blast took place at Southern Energy facility near downtown.

A reported explosion and fire at the Shelbyville, Tenn., city hall and other county offices forced an evacuation. The blast took place at Southern Energy facility near downtown.

The explosion was reported on at around 12:40 p.m. by NewsChannel 5.

The station reported that a half-mile radius surrounding the facility was evacuated after purported explosions and fires.

Shelbyville Police Chief Austin Swing said that oil tanks may have exploded at around 10:30 a.m., The Associated Press reported.

At least one person was reported injured, he said.
