U.S. Senator Charles Schumer sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch requesting funds for four new police officers in Newburgh. Schumer secured money for four new officers in 2014, and seeks to add four more through the Department of Justice’s Cops Hiring Program (CHP). He applied for $500,000 to cover the hiring, and hopes Lynch will approve the request.

In his letter to Lynch, Schumer mentioned Newburgh’s reputation as one of the cities with the most crime in the United States, and that he hopes states with higher crime rates can get more funding through the program than states with less perceived need.
