Singh Sabha Sports Club-B (SSSC-B), the number two string team for the club will fly off to Malaysia this weekend (Oct 11 and 12) for non-stop hockey as they compete for honors in a 9-a-side tournament in Kuala Lumpur.

The team will leave with 11 players for a tournament which will pit them against some of the region’s best club teams. Johnny Johal, convenor for SSSC is unsure of what lies in store of his club-mates as Asian hockey, especially at club level is notorious for producing some of the finest players from the region.

All Johal knows are that there are twenty-one teams along with SSSC Hong Kong out to vie for the RSC Hockey 9s Trophy where teams play in a 10 minute game with the exception of the final where each half will battle it out in a seven minute each half. With teams pitted in four Pools - A to D Johal looking to improve on their game and to see how far they can progress in this, their first international overseas tournament.

“This will be our first tournament away from Hong Kong, so we are all excited and hope to do well for the pride of Hong Kong. and of course if we can win it, that will be the icing on the cake,” said an enthusiastic Johal, whose team has been rapidly improving over the years and are eyeing this year to be their year, as they hunt their first Premier League title.

Johal, has no idea who they will be facing until they actually land in Malaysia but regardless, he felt their on-field experience in a hostile and alien environment could only do his team justice as they aim to improve not just for this year but many years to come.
