GOP-backed Rick Lazio started on the offense in his bid for the governor’s chair, firing shots at his potential rival Democrat Attorney General Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday.
At the Conservative Party Political Action Conference in Colonie, Lazio said Cuomo lacks “inspiration.”
Cuomo is leading “from a foxhole,” alleges Lazio. “It’s time the people of the state of New York heard less about the politics of Andrew Cuomo running for office and more about his ideas for holding public office.”
Cuomo’s response was that he is still working on his job as attorney general. A recent preliminary poll from Siena College shows Cuomo to be the overwhelming favorite among Democratic nominees, which include his opponent Gov. Paterson. He also has around a 40 point lead over Republican candidates in the primary election.
Lazio, a former U.S. representative, is now supported by 22 Republican county chairs.
