Retired Company President: Shen Yun 'It was fantastic'

CHICAGO—Bob and Janice Wille thoroughly enjoyed seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company, the premier classical Chinese dance and music company, performing at the Cadillac Palace Theater on May 12.

Shen Yun's mission is to revive 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture through story-based dance, music, and vocal soloists.

"It was fantastic," said Mr. Wille, a retired company president. "Excellent. They were very, very coordinated, and the color and everything was very, very nice."

Mrs. Wille, a retired optician, said that Shen Yun was magnificent, and the dancers were marvelous.

Shen Yun travels with its own renowned orchestra. The music is original and the sound unique with the combination of traditional Western and Eastern instruments.

Mr. Wille also enjoyed the Shen Yun Orchestra: "I would rate it very highly."

"It was an interesting combination of the different instruments, [and that] is what I really liked," his wife added.

Besides classical Chinese dance and music, Shen Yun is known for its colorful costumes and the state-of-the-art digital backdrops.

The Wille's liked the colors very much. "They were outstanding colors," said Mr. Willie. "I thought the color mix was good."

The dancers twirl handkerchiefs evoking the annual change of seasons in the northeastern folk dance An Early Spring. Audience members often mention being amazed at the motions of the handkerchiefs and wonder how it is done.

Mr. Wille said: "I want to know how they take those cloths, those handkerchiefs, and make them spin around."

Shen Yun takes the audience through 5,000 years of culture, from ancient times, with its beloved myths and legends, through to the present day.

"It was exciting to see all of the performers, the colors and the music. It was all great," Mr. Wille concluded.
