Reny Jose, a Rice University student, has vanished after traveling to Panama City for spring break.
Jose has been missing since March 3, according to a Facebook page set up to assist the search.
Jose's family is in Florida trying to get some answers and meeting with detectives.
Jose, 21, went to Panama City with about 20 of his friends.
They were all staying at a two-story house.
The last time friends saw him was on Monday night, they told investigators.
Officials found his clothes, wallet, and a cellphone in a nearby dumpster, reported WJHG.
The illegal drug LSD could have played a role, said Major Tommy Ford of the Bay County Sheriff's Office.
Jose is a mechanical engineering major.
