Rehana Begum, a British woman on vacation, was hacked to death during a violent robbery in Bangladesh.
It was reported Friday that the 43-year-old mother was attacked by a gang of four men who were looking for money and jewelry.
Her family told the BBC that Begum, who is from London, died in Sunamgonj. The Foreign Office confirmed the account.
Abdul, her nephew told the broadcaster, that the woman was on vacation with her 12-year-old son since early July.
“It happened this morning,” he was quoted as saying. “She has been hacked to death by four people for jewelery and money.”
A spokesperson with the Foreign Office told the BBC: “We are providing consular assistance to her family at this difficult time.”
