GWANGJU, South Korea—Shen Yun Performing Arts’ appearance in Gwangju Culture & Art Center on April 11 brought Professor Kan Moon-Ja unlimited joy from the beauty and vistas of the performance. She described the exquisite costumes and decorations as “refined and charming, gorgeous and grand.”

Ms. Kan is a professor at the Honam University and specializes in fashion design. “I am very interested in ethnic costumes. Those of Mongolian, Tibetan, and Yi have their unique charms. I am overwhelmed and in disbelief that Shen Yun is able to put on a fashion show of clothes from various dynasties and ethnicities in a short two hours.

“The costumes and the background colors are well balanced. The color of the Mongolian prairie and the green costumes blend together perfectly and I am so impressed. The uniqueness of the ethnic costumes are presented in delicate details. Such fine beauty!” she said.

“Shen Yun brings out the Chinese history from the beginning when gods descended to the secular world. The story about the Shaolin monks is so much fun. Through the story, I realized that Emperor Tang Taizong once was attacked by ruffians. It’s the same everywhere that good is rewarded and evil is punished.”

Shen Yun brought Ms. Kan a lot of inspiration. She said she will consider combining tradition into her work so that it can be “refined and charming, gorgeous and grand”, like Shen Yun is.
