Miami Dolphins v New York Jets

New head coach Jeff Fisher filled both the defensive and offensive coordinator positions on Monday, less than two weeks after assuming the head coaching job for the Saint Louis Rams.

Fisher tapped Gregg Williams as the Rams defensive coordinator after spending the previous three seasons with the Saints. Williams earned a Super Bowl ring after his defense held Payton Manning and the Colts to just 17 points in Super Bowl XLIV.

Fisher and Williams paired together for six seasons while in Tennessee.

“I have worked with and known Gregg for a lot of years and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him as a defensive coordinator and value his past experience as a head coach,” Fisher said on the team’s website. “He brings an aggressive approach that I’m sure will benefit our defense and he has a wealth of knowledge that will aid our entire team.”

Fisher also announced Brian Schottenheimer as the team’s new offensive coordinator on Monday. Schottenheimer left the New York Jets after they failed to make the playoffs this season. Prior to that he lead the Jets to back-to-back AFC title games, developing quarterback Mark Sanchez along the way.

“I am really excited to have Brian join our staff,” Fisher said on the team’s website. “He is a well respected coach in this league who has had success for many years at a high level as an offensive coordinator. We share the same philosophies on the offensive side of the ball and I think he is a tremendous addition to our staff.”

Schottenheimer’s career has come full circle—his first coaching gig in the NFL was with the rams as an offensive assistant in 1997 under Dick Vermeil.
