A Queens imam pleaded guilty on Thursday in connection with last September’s attempted bombing of a New York City subway.
Ahmad Afzali told the attempted bomber, Najibullah Zazi, that the FBI was watching him before he came to New York last year.
According to an Associated Press report, Afzali’s prosecutors said there could be a plea deal in the works to influence his decision.
Zazi, 25, pleaded guilty after he came to an agreement with officials last month. He faces charges for attempting to use weapons of mass destruction and conspiracy charges.
Zazi, who received training by al-Qaeda in Pakistan, constructed homemade bombs with the intent to detonate them during rush hour traffic in Manhattan.
Last month, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said that Zazi’s attempted attack was one of the worst attempts since Sept. 11, 2001. Zazi, as well as two other suspects in connection to the case, all attended high school in Queens.
