A Swiss political party is basing its entire platform on banning Microsoft PowerPoint, calling themselves the Anti-PowerPoint Party, APPP.

The Anti-PowerPoint Party believes that Microsoft’s popular software is wasting resources at Swiss companies, according to a statement on the party’s website.

In all, PowerPoint has caused 2.5 billion euros ($3.5 billion) in damage to the European economy, the party’s statement said.

APPP was founded on July 1, seeing itself “as the advocate of approximately 250 million citizens worldwide, who, every month, are obliged to be present during boring presentations in companies, and who have not been represented in politics until now,” according to its website.

The party is looking to whittle down the number of people using PowerPoint around the world. “The more people talk about it, the more change will take place,” stated APPP founder Matthias Poehm.

In 95 percent of cases, the flip-chart beats out the presentation software, Poehm notes, adding that the problem does not lie in PowerPoint but in the users of the said software. “This is not wishful thinking on my part but proven experience,” he added.

According to CNET, the party only needs to garner 100,000 signatures in order to call a national referendum to ban PowerPoint or similar software.
