A 17-year-old high school student has gone missing in Ocoee, Florida.

Police are now asking for the public’s help in locating her.

Kaylee Posey left her home for Ocoee High Schoo on Jan. 15 but never arrived.

Family members and friends have been searching for her ever since, and authorities thought it was time to send out a nationwide alert.

“We have been disseminating images of the child to the public, like in this case, the public awareness part of our work is extremely important, that’s one of our most powerful tools when it comes to missing children, making the public the eyes and ears of law enforcement,” Robert Lowery with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children told Fox35.

Ocoee Police Lt. Mike Bryant said he believes Posey ran away, but she could unknowingly be in danger.

“Because of her age and she’s out there on her own, there is the temptation. She’s vulnerable and we don’t want anyone taking advantage of a runaway that’s out there by herself,” said Lt Bryant.

Investigators think the teen is either still in Florida, or in West Virginia where she has family and friends.

“Basically we don’t have hardly any leads. We are just looking for her,” Posey’s mother Katherine Evans told News6.

Posey moved to Florida in April 2015. Evans said she realized some of her daughter’s makeup, clothing, and shoes were missing after her daughter disappeared.

Evans just wants to know her daughter is safe, wherever she is right now.

“Somebody has to know something. If somebody knows something, I just want them to say, ‘Yes, well, she’s OK. She’s safe. I know where she’s at,’” Evans said.

Posey is described as 5'5", 105 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes.

Anyone with information should call the Ocoee Police Department or Crimeline 800-423-TIPS (8477) or Ocoee Police Detective Michelle Grogan at 407-554-7211.
