Paul Parisi and Jannine Parisi were fatally shot in their home in Chantilly, Virginia.

The couple was found dead inside their home on Point Pleasant Drive early Wednesday morning after two teenage girls inside the home, hearing gunshots, had fled the house, reported NBC.

Police officers rushed to the scene but were too late, finding the bodies inside.

Paul, 46, was an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms since 1993, and Jannine Parisi was a health and P.E. teacher at Franklin Middle School since 2005.

ATF Special Agent in Charge Carl Vasilko released the following statement Wednesday afternoon: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members who have suffered a tremendous loss today.  We request that the family’s privacy be respected so that they can grieve in private.”

Sharon Eisenberg, principal of Franklin Middle School, said in a note to parents:

“Today has been a very emotional day at Franklin as we learned of this tragedy. An FCPS Crisis Team and our counselors are available to support staff and students. Please feel free to contact the school if there are any needs that arise with you or your children regarding this news. Our thoughts are with Jannine’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time.”
