The New England Patriots have released veteran wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, according to a statement on the team’s website.
Ochocinco, 34, was acquired by New England last offseason by the Patriots, after 10 seasons in Cincinnati, but didn’t perform up to his normal standards. The 6'1” wideout established career-lows in catches (15) and yards receiving (276) while hauling just one touchdown catch and was an afterthought for a team that made it all the way to the Super Bowl.
A former two-time First-Team All-Pro and six-time Pro-Bowler, Ochocinco had six straight 1,000-receiving-yard seasons with the Bengals and seven overall. Currently his career numbers of 766 catches and 11,059 receiving yards both rank 26th on the all-time lists.
