Papa John’s racist voicemail: An employee of the pizza chain left a racist message on a customer’s voicemail, apparently by accident.

The approximately four minute long voicemail has the employee speaking to another employee about the $5 tip he was given by the man whose phone he left the voicemail on, and included racial expletives.

“They give me five bucks there -- fine outstanding African-American gentleman of the community,” the delivery man can be heard saying in the call, sarcastically. The other employee laughs.

A video on YouTube from the customer said he tipped 21 percent, “as usual,” according to ABC.

John Schnatter, chairman and CEO of Papa John’s, left an apology on Facebook on May 27.

“Friends, I am extremely concerned to learn about the reprehensible language used by two former employees in one of our restaurants,” he said. “Their thinking and actions defy both my personal and the company’s values, and everything for which this company stands. The employees responsible for this absolutely unacceptable behavior were immediately terminated.”

Schnatter said his “heartfelt apology” goes out to the customer, the customer’s family, and the community at large.
