An article saying that ex-Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is wondering if missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370 “flew directly to heaven” is fake, but at least one news company and thousands of people believed it.
The article was published on the Daily Currant, a known satire website.
“The Daily Currant is an English language online satirical newspaper that covers global politics, business, technology, entertainment, science, health and media. It is accessible from over 190 countries worldwide - now including South Sudan,” reads a disclaimer for the website. “Our mission is to ridicule the timid ignorance which obstructs our progress, and promote intelligence - which presses forward.”
It adds: “Our stories are purely fictional. However they are meant to address real-world issues through satire and often refer and link to real events happening in the world.”
The fake Palin article essentially says she appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show and made claims about Malaysia Flight MH 370.
A website called Codewit World News republished the report over the weekend.
And on social media sites, users apparently believed the Palin satire.
“Keep ‘em coming Sarah. I want you and your ideas to be the face of the Republican party. (Let’s not even talk about astronauts who go just a little higher and somehow come back),” one person wrote.
