NYC Congressional Delegation Releases Details of House Stimulus Package

New York representatives held a conference call to reveal details of the House Stimulus package.

NEW YORK—New York-area congressional representatives held a conference call on Wednesday afternoon from Washington DC to reveal details of the House Stimulus package and gave a general breakdown of how funds headed to New York State and City will be allocated.

Rep. Weiner described the bill as “doing more for New York City than any bill in the last 10 years”

Rep. Eliot Engel from the Bronx said, “New York made out very well in health care and energy”

Though more details are to be released on Thursday, the Congressional Representatives gave a rough breakdown of the numbers:

• $1 billion to hire New York City Police Officers for a total of 440 new officers.
• $214 million for highways and bridges.
• $1.7 billion for the MTA.
• $1.85-$2 billion for health care.
• $520 million for Housing Authority.
• $1.7 billion for K-12 education with an additional. $800 million for infrastructure for education.
• $84 million for food stamp programs.
• $64 million for job training programs
• $1 billion increased funding for the state for the 2010 census
