From Dec. 5, 2022, to Jan. 8, 2023, nine prominent Chinese traditional medicine experts passed away in China, eight of whom were members of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The World Health Organization (WHO) criticized Beijing for heavily underreporting deaths from COVID-19. Chinese authorities announced just 37 COVID-related deaths since last month, even when foreign journalists witnessed over-crowded hospitals and satellite images showed long lines outside crematoriums and funeral homes in major Chinese cities.
