The Google Nexus 9 and Nexus 8 devices could be unveiled as early as next month, according to the latest reports.
The Nexus 9 is a tablet that is supposedly being built by HTC.
Google hasn’t unveiled a new tablet for about a year, a key point seeming to support the recent reports about the Nexus 9 being unveiled on October 8.
One source for that date is Portuguese website 4G News.
HTC is holding a press event on October 8. Though the company hasn’t announced yet what will be revealed there, the Nexus 9 tablet and an unnamed GoPro-like camera are expected to be among the new devices.
4G’s report came right after perhaps the most convincing evidence of the Nexus 9, a mention of the device in a legal document from chip make Nvidia. The company says that the device, which will features its new K1 processor, is due out in the third quarter of 2014.
“The Nvidia Tegra K1 is a graphics-intensive processor and has 192 Kepler graphics cores. The 32-bit model is powered by a quad-core 4-Plus-1 ARM Cortex A15 CPU, while the 64-bit model runs on a dual-core CPU based on the ARMv8 architecture,” reported Tablet PC review.
The blog notes that the device will have a 9-inch display, making it the first 9-inch model in the Nexus line.
Then there’s the Google Nexus 8, which will reportedly be a tablet follow-up from the Nexus 7.
But as PC Advisor notes “a Nexus 9 is also rumored and it’s unlikely that Google will launch both.”
If the Nexus 8 does make it through, the blog says that it will likely not be launched at the upcoming press event.
“Some think that it could be for the Nexus 8 but we feel it is more likely to be for smartphone related news again - probably the Desire 820,” it said.
“A more plausible plan, in our opinion, is that the Nexus 8 will be announced when Google launches Android L - which it has said will arrive in the autumn. The firm tends to launch a new Nexus product when a new Android version is released. October and November seem the most likely to us as this was when the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat were launched last year.”
