A new Peanuts movie will be hitting movie theaters next year.

Charlie Brown and his friends, and Snoopy, will be featured in the first reboot of the characters since the 1980s.

“It’s long overdue,” producer Craig Schulz told USA Today. “The fans have been asking for a long time, but we held off until the time was right.”

Craig is one of the sons of Charles Schulz, the creator of the comic series who died in 2000.

Charlie Brown and boy's best friend Snoopy reunite on the big screen in 'Peanuts,' due Nov. 6, 2015.

Craig said that he and his family have worked to make sure that the characters and content aren’t abused in any way.

“I’m way more protective than my father would have been,” says Schulz. “Our No. 1 goal was always to be authentic to his work and legacy.”

The plot of the movie, which has a November 2015 release date, is being kept under wraps, but additions to the cast include the unveiling of Charlie Brown’s lifelong crush, known only as “the Red-Haired Girl.”

There’s also plans for exploring backstories, such as Snoopy’s World War I fighting adventures.

“We’re going to fly with Snoopy in his fantasy world,” says Martino. “We have a bigger canvas. Bill Melendez got Snoopy off the ground in the TV specials. We’re going to take it a step further.”
