New York Knicks v Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets (9-4) topped the New York Knicks (9-4) 96–89 in Brooklyn in overtime Monday night as the two franchises began their new inner-city rivalry Monday night in intense fashion.

Tyson Chandler scored a career-high 28 points and had 10 rebounds and Carmelo Anthony scored 35 and grabbed 13 boards but the Knicks, which were without the injured-Jason Kidd, had little offensive help besides those two.

Anthony scored just one point in the final seven minutes as the Nets brought defender after defender to guard him. Raymond Felton shot 3/19 from the floor.

Deron Williams had a team-high 14 assists to go along with 16 points while Brook Lopez went for 22 points and 11 rebounds. Starting guards Williams and Joe Johnson were a combined 9/29 shooting as the two teams played rugged defense all night.

Thirty-eight-year-old Jerry Stackhouse hit 4/5 three-pointers off the bench for the Nets.
