The Brooklyn Nets’ long-awaited Thursday night home opener in the new Barclays Center, against their crosstown Rival Knicks, has been postponed due to complications from Hurricane Sandy, according to a report on the NBA’s website.
“It’s a great stadium, it would have been a great game, but the bottom line is: There is not a lot of mass transit. Our police have plenty of other things to do,” said Mayor Bloomberg, who asked the NBA for the postponement, which the league to.
The Barclays Center resides above the Atlantic Avenue subway station but with no assurances of what—if any—subway lines will be running, the Nets agreed with the decision.
“We’re disappointed that we can’t play, but there’s a lot more important things going on right now, a lot of people displaced from their homes, a lot of people lost loved ones,” said Nets point guard Deron Williams.
