Navy SEAL accident Ariz.: An accident during a “routine military free-fall training,” left a Navy SEAL dead and another injured in Ariz.

A Navy SEAL was killed and another was hurt in an accident during a parachute training exercise in Arizona, officials said. 

A Defense Department official told USA Today that the SEAL who was killed was a senior officer and was taken to the University of Arizona Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Command spokesman Kenneth McGraw told The Associated Press that the SEALs were doing “routine military free-fall training” when the accident took place. The incident took place at around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Pinal County Sheriff’s office added that two SEALs collided in mid-air and landed in different areas.

The name of the SEAL will not be released until 24 hours after his family has been informed.  

Officials did not elaborate as to where the accident took place. The Army has a special operations training facility at the Military Freefall School in Yuma, Ariz.
