MSNBC has fired the author of a racist tweet about conservatives not liking a Cheerios commercial because it features a biracial family.

The tweet was deleted by the network, which apologized several hours later on Wednesday night.

On Thursday, MSNBC President Phil Griffin said in a statement that the tweet was “outrageous and unacceptable.”

“We immediately acknowledged that it was offensive and wrong, apologized, and deleted it. We have dismissed the person responsible for the tweet.”

Griffin also apologized to Reince Priebus, the chair of Republican National Committee, and to everyone else who was offended

“At msnbc we believe in passionate, strong debate about the issues and we invite voices from all sides to participate,” he added. “That will never change.”
