The shooting, which happened around 1 p.m. off Georgia Road in Birmingham, AL, killed a mother who was holding her 10-day old son.

The shots came during an altercation between two men.
“It’s even more sad because she was holding her infant in her arms, when she was shot. Fortunately, the baby was not injured,” Sgt. Williams told WRBC-TV. “So we really need to public to step up and give us all the information we have, so we can get this person off the street.”
Anyone with information pertaining to the case is urged to called the Birmingham Police Department Homicide Unit at (205) 254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777.
“We are utilizing everything we can at this point to find everyone involved,” Sgt. Williams told NBC.
Family members told The Birmingham News that Williams six-year-old daughter was at school when the incident happened. Kerry Jackson, Williams’s uncle, told the newspaper that Williams had been trying to move out of the neighborhood, and urged anyone with information about the shooting or the shooter to come forward.
“Just imagine if these kids would’ve been out here playing,” he said. “All of the kids are out here, and someone could come through here shooting.”
