More “Fast and Furious” guns were recovered in Mexico, according to a report on Tuesday.

CBS News, which broke the story on an affiliate’s Twitter account, cited a source in saying that the guns were found in Mexico.

It did not elaborate where and how many guns were found.

The “Fast and Furious” gun-running program has been a lightning rod for Republican lawmakers, who have criticized Attorney General Eric Holder and the Department of Justice for overseeing the controversial project.

The ATF monitored the sale of around 2,000 firearms, but only around 700 were recovered as of February 2012.

The guns also were blamed in the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in 2011.
