Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther announced on Aug. 12 that three municipalities will receive $4.2 million for water and sewer projects. In Orange County, the City of Middletown will receive the least of the funding at $975,345. In Sullivan County, the Town of Fallsburg was awarded $2,146,743 while the Town of Liberty was awarded $2,112,388.
The money comes from funds made available to municipalities through the state’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act, which makes $400 million total available in grants, dispersed in three rounds from 2015 through 2017. The most recent round of funding made $175 million available for municipalities.
“This funding will enable municipalities to update infrastructure and not pass the burden of doing so on to taxpayers,” said Gunther in a press release.
