A wildfire in northern Michigan’s Upper Peninsula slightly decreased, according local officials, who said 20,000 acres have been burned.
Michigan authorities said that nearly half of the fire had been contained as of Sunday, according to MLive.com.
Overall, around 100 people were evacuated from nearby areas, Dean Wilson, a spokesperson for the fire management team, told The Associated Press.
Many of those evacuated were senior citizens who retired along the Pike Lake area. “They’re very stressed. The hospital is busy. They need to get their medicines,” evacuee Amy Witherspoon told MLive.
More than 40 structures have been threatened and six are confirmed to have been lost in the fire, but it is unclear if they are houses.
“Structure protection is high priority and is being closely monitored from the air. ... Potential for blow-up conditions,” said the Department of Natural Resources, according to AP.
