The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and sports shoe manufacturer Nike have teamed up on a project to auction off 1,500 pairs of a limited edition sneaker called the Nike MAG, on eBay, for 10 days beginning Sept. 8.

The shoe, which is an exact replica of a prop worn by Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly in the hit 1989 movie Back to the Future Part II, features an electroluminescent outsole, space-age materials, and a rechargeable internal battery good for 3,000 hours.

All proceeds from the auction will go to Fox’s foundation. Additionally, Google co-founder Sergey Brin and his wife Anne Wojcicki are pledging to match up to $50 million for donations made to the foundation between now and Dec. 31, 2012. In 1991, Fox was diagnosed with young-onset Parkinson’s disease.
