Kobe Bryant appeared alongside actor Michael B. Jordan in a new ad for Apple TV, titled “Father Time” that aired on April 10.
The commercial opens with Bryant and Jordan in a trailer, where Bryant shows Jordan old footage of himself, to prepare Jordan for his role as the NBA star in a biographical film. Bryant, describing himself as “a cold-blooded assassin,” is stunned when the “Fruitvale Station” actor interjects with “locked in a battle with father time.”
Jordan clad in a Kobe Bryant Lower Merion High School jersey continues on to say “like a hero on a verge of a steep decline,” in which Bryant counters with“it’s all ascension.” Bryant then learns that Jordan will play him throughout the entire film after further questions about his career.
With the help of Siri, Jordan turns on the film, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” and then says, “that is the guy I’m playing in this movie.” Disgusted by this, the five-time NBA champion throws the actor out of his trailer.
Kobe Bryant announced he was retiring after the 2015-2016 season. In a letter to fans, titled “Dear Basketball” Bryant stated that “this season is all I have left to give.” and “my body knows it’s time to say goodbye.” He has since enjoyed a farewell tour, with fans packing arenas all over the country to see Bryant play one last time.
Bryant showed bursts of the old Black Mamba on April 10 when the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Houston Rockets, scoring 35 points on 45 percent shooting.
