Does Matthew McConaughey have a long-lost relative? A twin from another time?
Not quite, but he does have a doppelgänger.
Sanders Parker posted a photo of his great-great-grandfather, Andrew Sanders, on Reddit and his eerie similarities with the 2005 Sexiest Man Alive is spot on. The photo, posted on April 12, has since amassed over 1 million views and counting.
In an interview with ABC News, Parker shared more about his great-great grandfather.
“His name was Dr. Andrew Sanders, and he’s also where I get my namesake from,” he said. “Apparently he was the man.”
Physician Sanders, born in Alabama, enjoyed listening to the sounds of birds and “sitting on the porch with his feet propped up on the banister, smoking his pipe.”
Parker, a Tennessee man, credits his sister for pointing out the likeness between the two men.
“It’s been a lot of fun. My sister deserves most of the credit,” 30-year-old Parker said. “My uncle posted it originally [on Facebook] and my sister pointed out the resemblance. I’m just the one who took it and ran with it.”
With photo editing programs such as Photoshop, where facial features can differ from the original (i.e. Kerry Washington), questions regarding authenticity is expected. But Parker insists the photo is an original, sans Photoshop.
“I know it’s hard to believe in the photoshop age that this isn’t altered, but it really is straight up original,” he said. “I think Redditors do pretty good detective work. They'd definitely find me out. And my family isn’t savvy enough to attempt that.”
This is the second Reddit user to post a photo of a celebrity doppelgänger. Shannon Welch posted a photo of her then 13-year-old boyfriend, Clyff, who shared similarities to actress Natalie Portman.
