The Manitou Springs mudslide in Colorado washed away a car and stranded drivers, it was reported.
The mudslide was caused by floods nearly three feet high, and according to ABC News, nearly two dozen cars were trapped along U.S. Highway 24. The nearly two-dozen drivers had to cross over a ladder that was set up by firefighters to reach dry land.
Firefighters told the broadcaster that the mudslide was likely caused due to recent fires in nearby Waldo Canyon. The fires left soil that was unable to retain water left behind by recent heavy rains.
“Do not drive through flooding areas and don’t let children play in the culverts and waterways. Very dangerous,” said Colorado Springs Police on Twitter.
A video showed one car being washed away by the mudslide, but police told the Denver Post there were no injuries.
Authorities were forced to deploy bulldozers to remove some of the mud, according to CBS Denver.
