At least two sharks were spotted off Manhattan Beach in Los Angeles County in Southern California on Tuesday.
Patch.com reported that Monterey Bay Aquarium tagged the two sharks and then released them back into the water.
A resident of Manhattan Beach said there was a seven-foot and a four-foot, according to Patch. Capt. Kyle Daniels of the Los Angeles County Lifeguards confirmed the resident’s account.
NBC Los Angeles reported there were “multiple sharks,” while some accounts said there were as many as four swimming off the beach.
The sharks were hundreds of yards from swimmers and surfers, the station reported.
It was unclear what kind of sharks they were.
Daniels said there was “speculation” that the sharks were great whites.
