Man who fled zombies: A man who claimed he was fleeing zombies after he stole a big rig truck in Southern California before crashing it has pleaded guilty.

Jerimiah Hartline on Monday admitted guilt to assault with a deadly weapon, a hit-and-run causing injury or death, and vehicle theft. Hartline, originally from Tennessee, could get as many as five years in prison, reported U-T San Diego.

California authorities say that Hartline, 19, was involved in several crashes before the truck overturned on Interstate 15, causing seven injuries.

“He was arrested at the crash scene and appeared to be in an altered state, claiming he was being chased by zombies,” California Highway Patrol Officer Nathan Baer told the Riverside Press-Enterprise last month.

The truck was stolen when the driver got out to weigh it.

Baer said that Hartline was a transient who hitched a ride with a trucker before stealing the vehicle.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
