The football season for Lunenburg High School is over following the recent racial slur against Isaac Phillips.

The decision was made by the superintendent of schools in Lunenburg, reported 7News.

The hate crime happened when one or more people spray-painted a racial slur on Phillips home.

Phillips, a freshman, has a white mother and a black father, reported NECN. His family says he’s been harassed and bullied as a member of the junior varsity football team.

Andrea Brazier, Isaac’s mother, said that the school isn’t doing enough to find out who sprayed the slur on their home.

“He’s not himself obviously. He still doesn’t know who to treat, obviously it hasn’t came out who it is, doesn’t know who to believe and doesn’t want to be here,” said Isaac’s mother, Andrea Brazier.

While the community is rallying around Phillips, with several hundred attending a vigil at the town common on Sunday, Phillips said it’s been a tough time.

“We’re supposed to be a team. Coaches are supposed to be a role model. Well, this is my team, and these are my coaches. I can say it’s a sad day to be a blue knight,” said Phillips.
