Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has been laid to rest in a private funeral, according to reports.
Bennington committed suicide earlier this month, according to a Los Angeles medical examiner. He was 41.
TMZ reported on Sunday, July 30, that the funeral was held near his home in Palos Verdes, Calif., with several hundred people attending the service. Many of the guests were musicians who knew the singer.
Police provided heavy security at the event. Photographs taken of the funeral showed police officers on motorcycles near the procession.
An attendee, the hip-hop artist Blackbear, wrote that it was a “beautiful ceremony,” adding that a “lil piece of u has & will be in every song i sing on stage forever (sic),” according to Blabbermouth.
Another funeral attendee, Toni Karayiannis, wrote (sic): “I’m not ready to let one more of my loved ones go,not now not ever! Chester and Talinda stood by us 24/7 I can’t give Chester up today ! It’s unfair that god wants them both! Its just double the pain! Unthinkable, unbearable! Black Saturday!”
Earlier this week, Linkin Park issued its first statement since the singer’s death, saying that “shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened.”
“Talking with you about the years ahead together, your excitement was infectious. Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing,” Linkin Park wrote.
