NEW YORK—Levi Aron, 36, a hardware store sales clerk, was sentenced to 40 years for the kidnapping and murder of 8-year-old orthodox Jewish boy Leiby Kletzky.

Leiby was kidnapped in Brooklyn’s Borough Park and killed July 11 last year, sparking community-wide grief and safety reevaluations.

Earlier this month Aron pleaded guilty to lesser charges, which spared him a life sentence without parole.

Aron did not wish to speak at his sentence hearing, according to Newsday.
