The Lego scale model of India’s famous Taj Mahal is gaining increased recognition after an unofficial endorsement by UK soccer star David Beckham.

Beckham, who recently sat out of the 2010 World Cup due to an injury, said publicly that he enjoyed building the Lego version of the classic Indian structure. Beckham spoke to his fans in a web chat where he spoke about his admiration for the Lego structure. After the legendary soccer player’s public address, sales for the Lego Taj Mahal increased 663% in one day, reported CNN.

“As a fan of the product, David Beckham and his family have been invited to tour the Lego headquarters in Billund, Denmark, and contribute new ideas to the Lego Group,” Emma Owen, UK Lego Rep., told CNN.

The Lego model of the Taj Mahal consists of more than 5,590 pieces. On the company’s official website the structure is said to consist of more pieces than any other item sold by Lego. The Taj Mahal is recommended for experienced builders. The building process is designed to be executed in three large sections, making transporting the structure relatively simple.

The real Taj Mahal was constructed by more than 20,000 Islamic workers. The building process started in 1631 and ended in 1653. The building is one of the seven wonders of the world alongside the Great Pyramid of Giza and the Great Wall Of China.
