If any team has fallen this season compared to last season, it’s the Cleveland Cavaliers. Literally, as they went from being ranked first in the East last season, to being ranked last in the entire league this season. So they can’t make it to playoffs, but know what they can do? Beat the Miami Heat.
The Cavs pulled a win over the Heat yesterday (102–90), which must have been a sweet victory over LeBron James, who left Cleveland, his hometown, for Miami as a free agent this past summer.
LeBron had a pretty triple-double, with 27 points, 12 assists, and 10 rebounds. According to NBA.com, he got 13 points in the first 11 minutes, but under defensive pressure from Cavs Christian Eyenga and Alonzo Gee, he didn’t score for the next 24:05. His Heat teammate, Dwyane Wade, chipped in 24 points, while newly acquired Mike Bibby dished 23 points.
The Cavs had five players hitting double-digits: Ryan Rollins with 13 points, Anthony Parker had 20 points, Baron Davis gave 10 points, Ramon Sessions with 11 points, and J. J. Hickson contributed 21 points as well as 12 rebounds.
In the long run, does this game really matter? No, not terribly, as the Heat are already guaranteed a playoff berth, and the Cavs are already guaranteed none. But in the short run, for sure, you can bet that the Cavs and their fans will remember this game.
