If Bubble Boy rings a bell, Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio penned the screenplay of the same name that was a cult classic in the 2001. Now as a musical, it will surely be a hit.

It’s the story of Jimmy Livingston, the “bubble boy,” whose lack of an immune system keeps him isolated from society as he lives in a plastic enclosure. Jimmy’s overbearing mother is his closest contact.

Enter Chloe, the girl next door, who Jimmy becomes instantly infatuated with. She becomes his regular visitor until she leaves for Niagara Falls after high school graduation to marry another.

Jimmy rigs up a mobile bubble suit and travels cross country to let Chloe know his true feelings.  Pursued by his mother and father, he meets more quirky people than imaginable.  Jimmy’s adventures make Bubble Boy a hilarious romp.

There’s lots of talent here, Chris McCarrell at Jimmy; Erin MaGuire as his mom, and Gerianne Perez as Chloe along with a great supporting cast.  Directed and choreographed by Jen Wineman with musical direction by Brent Crayon, the songs and dance routines are memorable.

Bubble Boy is presented by American Theater Group and is now showing at Union County Performing Arts Center’s Hamilton Stage in Rahway through November 24th.  Contact:  www.americantheatergroup.org or call (732) 499-8226.
