LaGuardia Airport: On Tuesday, LaGuardia Airport in New York City was briefly evacuated in the morning after a suspicious package was found.

One terminal was evacuated but it was later canceled, reported Bloomberg News.

NBC New York reported that officials allowed passengers to come back into the terminal after it was cleared out for 45 minutes.

The suspicious package was found in a shopping area.

Just before 11:30 a.m., officials determined that the package was not a threat and was merely “some kind of light ballast,” according to the Wall Street Journal.

Elaborating further, ABC New York reported that wiring was seen hanging out of the package.

New York City and several other major U.S. cities have been under a heightened state of security after two bombs exploded near the finish line at the Boston Marathon on Monday, killing three people and injuring dozens more.

A spokesperson with the Port Authority said that the evacuation did not affect passengers who went through airport security at the terminal, according to the Journal.

On Twitter, numerous users posted photos of throngs of people waiting outside the terminal with their luggage in hand.
