Legendary record executive and music producer Antonio “L.A.” Reid will be a judge on Simon Cowell’s FOX network music talent competition The X Factor, according to a press release from the network last week.
Reid has been a major force behind the success of such music powerhouses as Jay-Z, Bon Jovi, and Rihanna, to name just a few. To make the move possible, he has apparently handed in his resignation as chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group.
Tough guy Simon Cowell said in a statement, “L.A. was my number one choice to sit alongside me on the show.” He went on to say, “For any artist auditioning, they know they have the chance to meet a true star-maker.”
Other judges will be forthcoming, with Mariah Carey, Paula Abdul, and Jessica Simpson being rumored among the contenders.
