In this video, we are at a Nike event in Rio de Janeiro.
The setting looks like a soccer escape celebrating the 2014 World Cup. We see displays of soccer cleats and jerseys, as well as fans doing various dribbling drills.
At the center of it all — surrounded by video cameras, is Los Angelos Lakers star Kobe Bryant. Though having only only played in six games during the past year due to serious injuries, Kobe seemed in good health and was enthusiastic in answering questions concerning this year’s World Cup.
Below is a transcript of Kobe’s answers to questions that we do not get to hear.
On the World Cup,
“Who knows. The amount of goals we’ve had in the opening matches so far is unbelievable. I think we’ve had 15 goals so far? So it’s hard to predict. It can either be 2-1, or it can be 6-3. You don’t know, it’s hard.”
On Messi,
“Messi’s going to respond to the challenge too. His been dealing with a lot of pressure in terms of playing for his Argentine team and how he plays in World Cups. A lot of that pressure comes from how Maradonna performed years ago, so I think this is the World Cup for him to step up and really go for it. I know his been dealing with a lot of injuries, so hopefully he’s 100% healthy this time and he can go out and get busy.”
We finish with a Anderson Varajeo interview in his native language, and then clips of Kobe playing soccer with fans. The Lakers star displayed quite swift lateral quickness on defense — could this perhaps be a sign of a resurrection this coming season?
