AUSTIN, Texas—“We love it, absolutely loved it,” said Mr. Dennis Eakin, president of a KIA reseller company, after seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts with his wife and grandchildren at the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin, Texas.
New York-based Shen Yun presents 5,000 years of Chinese culture through music and dance on stage, with a mission to revive traditional Chinese values.
Mr. Eakin was impressed with classical Chinese dance, and particularly liked some of the ancient legends.
“I just liked the idea that he got a chance to redeem himself after making a mistake,” Mr. Eakin said of Yang Zhi, a character from the classic novel Outlaws of the Marsh.
Mr. Eakin said he had been to China last year and appreciated its history, “China’s thousands of years old,” he said.
He also felt the warmth of the Chinese people, “The people loved us—going right through cities and villages and we felt so comfortable.”
Mrs. Candis Eakin agreed and said she was excited to be able to share the aspects of the journey with her grandchildren now.
“It was magical,” Mrs. Eakin said of the springtime season in China.
“[Shen Yun] was just incredible,” she said. “It’s just absolutely fabulous. It’s beautiful, and it’s so precise. So precise, it’s like they’re flying, beautiful.”
