HONG KONG—On a Sunny afternoon at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open, Daria Gavrilova, the 8th seed provided another shock in the tournament by beating No 1 seed, Angelique Kerber, in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

Kerber looked listless throughout the match, despite encouraging cheers from the partisan Hong Kong crowd. She began well, taking the opening 2 games, to lead 2-0 in the 1st set, and then lost 12 of the next 14 games. She showed patches of brilliance, but it was a sub-par performance by Kerber. In the post match interview she said she “was not at her best ”, and “tired, after a long season”. Her body and mind need rest before the season finale.
