Kathleen Parker, who formed one half of CNN’s Parker Spitzer show, is leaving the prime time program after five months, CNN said on Friday.
The show will be replaced by In the Arena, which will feature Eliot Spitzer, the former governor of New York and the other host of Parker Spitzer. The show will start on Monday.
“I have decided to return to a schedule that will allow me to focus more on my syndicated newspaper column and other writings,” Parker, a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist, said in a statement, according to CNN.
Parker Spitzer struggled to earn ratings during the 8 p.m. EST time slot.
“With the show going in a new direction, it is a good time to move on,” Parker added. “I want to thank the viewers who have been so kind with their comments and support.”
In the Arena will feature “an ensemble format with several newsmakers, guests and contributors joining Eliot Spitzer each night,” said CNN Executive Vice President Ken Jautz.
“It has been a joy working with her as a teammate, and I continue to be a huge fan of the wisdom that jumps from her written work and the wit, charm and insight she brings to all that she does,” Spitzer said.
