Justin Blackmon, the wide receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was suspended by the team, the team said on Friday.
It said that he was “suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse,” according to the team’s website.
It added: “Blackmon’s suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement prior to the start of the 2014 season.”
Blackmon, 23, was drafted fifth overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Jaguars.
He missed the first four games of the season for violating the NFL’s Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. Friday’s suspension was a separate one.
