Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton’s previously unreleased State Department emails show mishandling of classified information on Afghanistan through an unsecured email server.
About 200 pages of U.S. State Department documents, including Clinton’s messages, were revealed by conservative watchdog Judicial Watch on Oct. 13. The documents include seven Clinton email exchanges that were not previously handed over to the State Department during the investigation on her use of a private email server.
Classified Information on Afghanistan
The emails show Clinton’s aides exchanging classified information concerning Afghanistan through her unsecured email address.
The September 2009 email from Anne-Marie Slaughter, who was at the time the director of policy planning at the State Department, was sent to Clinton’s aides Huma Abedin, Cheryl Mills, and Jacob Sullivan.
The email, which starts off saying, “I had a long talk with,” was completely redacted by the State Department.
Clinton then wrote using her private email address with the subject line “Afghanistan” to Abedin, Sullivan, and Mills.
“Anne-Marie sent me a memo yesterday about her conversation w Sarah Chayes but when it was sent to Huma for printing it did not completely print but cut off after the first intro para. Can someone resend directly to me?” she said.
The emails also show Abedin sending the former secretary of state’s government itinerary through an unsecured email server—twice in September 2009—and included recipients from staff members at the Clinton Foundation.
