'Jail sucks' T-shirt: A Florida man wearing a “Jail Sucks” T-shirt was arrested by authorities during a welfare fraud crackdown titled “Operation Meal Ticket.”
The Smoking Gun published a photo of the man, 39-year-old Don Castner. He was one of dozens of people arrested during the sting and was charged with felony welfare fraud for selling Electronic Benefits Transfer cards to undercover agents.
He was sent to Manatee County Jail with a $5,000 bond.
More than 100 people have been arrested in the operation.
"This is a huge problem, and we're like one of maybe three or four law enforcement agencies in the state of Florida that have decided to do something about this," Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube said Wednesday, reported ABC Action News.
Authorities determined that a suspect, Gerald Millas, was the central figure in the fraud operation.
Millas “used 53 different EBT cards at Sam's Clubs,” Steube said.
“A couple of them said I'm headed to go get some rock cocaine,” he said of several of the suspects.
Regarding the T-shirt, Castner had to replace it with a blue jail smock. He has been arrested and jailed for drug possession, contempt of court, drug possession, battery, and other charges, according to the Smoking Gun.
