Ivanka Trump revealed that her father, President Donald Trump, and his 63 million voters have been “energized” by the impeachment effort.
Both Congressmen voted against impeachment while Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) voted against one of the articles—obstructing Congress—against Trump while Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) voted “present.” Not a single Republican voted in favor of impeachment.
Ivanka Trump was asked by the CBS anchor about her father’s mood after impeachment.
“It is pretty unprecedented that support for impeachment has decreased over time as more information was presented to the American people. It’s decreased, not increased,” she said. “So with all of this time spent, with all of these witnesses who didn’t have firsthand knowledge, with all of these people that have been paraded in front of the American people, support for this action has decreased. So, you know, I think he sees it for what it is, which is really just raw partisan politics.”
She then said President Trump is “energized” by the House votes against him, “as are 63 million-plus voters who elected him to office.”
“This is historic, as you note, and in many ways, including the fact that it is the first purely partisan impeachment. In fact, the only thing bipartisan was the vote against proceeding forward.”
The impeachment process is now scheduled to move to the Republican-controlled Senate, where it’s likely he will be acquitted.
Meanwhile, despite impeachment, the White House scored several political points with the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act as well as the landmark U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement (USMCA) and progress on the trade deal with China.
Ivanka Trump noted that her father is also incensed by how Congress has operated in recent days.
He is “angry at the waste of time” and “angry at the collateral damage. Angry, but it’s still energizing. And it focuses you on really and draws into relief the stark contrast in priorities.”
